About:

Hi, my name is Michelle Stevens and I am a doll artist based in Portland, Oregon, USA. I first fell in love with doll making about 8 years ago, but I've always been interested in creating things. When I was a little girl I always had a craft or project or two (or seven!) going, something I carry on to this day. My passions are art and technology. I started making YouTube videos in 2006 when I was a teenager, and it was through YouTube that I discovered the doll community. Ever since I learned that doll making was something people could do from home, I wanted to be a part of it. I got my first reborn in 2016 and I have been painting them on and off ever since. I think there's a magic that happens when people see a doll that makes them happy, so my goal has been to make dolls that create that magic! This year I am focused on painting at a professional level and reborning for realism. This is a shift from my prior work where I had a lot of fun making fantasy dolls. I didn't make a doll meant to look like a real baby until my grandma wanted one. I made my first "regular" reborn to sell in 2019, and I've come a long way since then. I am constantly learning new things and experimenting. I attend art classes online and at doll shows. So far I've had the privilege of learning from masters in doll sewing, sculpting, reborning, hair painting, and hair rooting. I make my dolls in my home studio in Portland, Oregon where my two cats keep me company. I pour lots of love and time into each baby. I use only high quality materials and paints. I have extensive experience with air dry acrylics, and I've expanded into heat set paints now too, I'm loving them! The reborn dolls I make are a collaboration between myself and the talented sculptors I support. I use licensed vinyl doll kits as my canvas. I exclusively work with doll kits that are sourced from reputable dealers. I am committed to ethics in doll making and do not condone the use of counterfeit dolls as I respect our sculptors and their rights. I will never use a counterfeit kit.
